HILLSBORO ARTS LEAGUE
ABOUT US
Art is for Everyone!
Hillsboro Arts League (HAL) is a grassroots, volunteer-run organization. Its mission is
to enliven and enlighten the community by promoting the arts and local artists.
Forming in 2022, we opened the doors of our gallery, classroom and film darkroom
in January 2023. HAL was designated a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in September 2023.

HAL has lots of ideas for the future! Public art, art classes for all ages, events, and more.

Be part of the art! Attend a class or event, become a member, or support us through your donations.

2023 RECAP
In 2023, Hillsboro Arts League accomplished a lot!

-
We finished major renovation to open our gallery and classroom at 54-A West Elm Street, on the historic courthouse square. Many thanks to NuZone Properties for their support
-
We held an open house in January, welcoming almost 100 of our members and supporters.
-
The City of Hillsboro turned over the operation of the Bond’s Alley Art Festival to HAL. We added a Friday night concert to the event, as well as music in the alley and on Covington Street.
-
We held our second annual Sidewalk Sale, this time at the Scout Hut on Corsicana Highway, raising almost $1,000 each year. Surplus items were donated to Paw Pals for their fundraiser.
-
The gallery has been open for Girls Night Out, part of the Main Street program.
-
The “Meet the Artist” event began in August, giving residents a chance to learn more about one of our talented area artists. This is held at least quarterly.
-
The photography darkroom was completed. Many thanks to Charlie Mitchell of Lone Star Plumbing for his help!
-
We held our first Holiday Art Market prior to the Hillsboro Christmas Parade. Our member artists sold a variety of wares, from DIY ornaments to on-the-spot painted portraits.
All of this was accomplished with only volunteer efforts. Our gallery is open most weekends Friday through Sunday.

We still need donors for 2024! Here's some of what we are working on:
-
At our gallery, generously supported by F&C Eaton Enterprises, LLC, local artists in varied media display their works.
-
Art instructors hold classes for all ages in our classroom.
-
A darkroom has been built to share the craft of film photography with young and old.
-
Public art installation of murals, sculpture and other artwork to beautify downtown
-
Provide opportunities for arts integration into Hillsboro business and community: art exhibits and walks, flash mobs, one-act plays, musical performances
